Some Small Legwork

The past few weeks have been a bit busy. I’ve done a little bit of script editing, but I am falling behind. Part of the way the original vanilla game was programmed is not… particularly conducive to the way Renpy was envisioned/designed.

So I’m having to rework what I’m finding to be… more significant portions of the code to get it to behave more like a traditional visual novel.

That said, last week, I also built a new computer. Given the recent GPU shortage, I’ve gotten a 4060 Ti to tide me over until the supplies of the higher end GPU’s are in greater supply. Unfortunately, that may be a while. Things are also complicated by that 12 volt high power disaster that is happening on the 5090 GPU’s.

All in all, a pretty crappy time to need to build a new machine. Oh well… should give me more time to focus on the portions that aren’t significantly render-heavy for now. That said, the 4060 Ti’s performance seems to be similar to the 3080 laptop’s, even though it ends up having lesser CUDA cores.

I think I’ve cracked a rough way to estimate relative performance in rendering. Multiply the CUDA core count with the clock speed of the device, and that is how I found the 4060 Ti’s performance to roughly be in the range of the 3080 laptop’s after doing more significant research in looking up device parity.

I’ve also made a few environment files based off of the teaser images that saddog had uploaded.

Here is the .DUF file for Jeremy’s apartment/photo studio:

And here is the .DUF file for the subway where Ruby hangs out:

I have a work in progress for Frank’s yacht, but that one is pending some research on finding the proper ocean/water asset, and setting up an appropriate skydome.

I find myself in a similar situation with the Barn where Sam has his date with Alexis. There’s some grass assets outside, and a wooded environment that I need to find to properly set up that environment as well.
