Recently, I’ve paused my SubscribeStar, due to feeling like I haven’t been putting out as much output as I had wanted. I’ve still been working on the game, though, and today, I’d like to say, I’ve finished an initial rewrite of the upstairs_bathroom scenes. The language was fixed up, and so I’ve moved on to rewriting the basement scenes.
It’s interesting doing the rewrite, since looking behind at the original source code, it’s interesting to see how the sausage was being made. Some of the choices are interesting as little experiments, but a lot of them do end up feeling like they were prematurely aborted/toyed around with but didn’t go anywhere.
That said, even with a lot of the awkwardness of saddog’s original dialog, I think he still did an excellent job with the dialogue’s relative pacing, as well as the render interweaving. So that is something I appreciate about it.
That said, I plan on moving a lot of the old systems/custom screens where choices were made with buttons into the simplified menu structure that has the simple text explanation on them in a lot of cases.
This is simply because I feel that a lot of those menu structures he had set up seemed a bit like overengineering.
On a somewhat related front, I recently purchased an A16 iPad, as well as a Logitech Combo keyboard case. It actually came in useful on multiple occasions, since when I’m away from my computer, I have an IDE installed where I’ve been typing away at making edits as well.
This allows me to kind of have a “notebook” like device on hand almost all the time so that I can make notes for any spur of the moment inspiration/ideas that I have, which I’ve found to be pretty rewarding.
No new renders at the moment, but it is always great to look back at the fan art thread for the game and draw some inspiration out of some of the deviant ideas some of the game’s historical fans had.
Felt I owed you all a little write up on recent coming’s and going’s on and whatnot.
All in all, with all the wackiness that has been the last few years, it is nice, at least in my mind, that usually during the fall season, I get a pretty good sprout of inspiration. It might be something to do with the cooling weather.
